JBL Flip 3 Splash Proof Portable Bluetooth Speaker Review
A leaf from Edison’s life lessons has paid high dividends to JBL. With the third-generation model, JBL has hit the bull’s eye. The JBL Flip 3 Bluetooth speaker ticks all the right boxes; it has a smooth, slick, splash proof design, a battery that lasts up to 10 hours, and a price tag that’s among the lowest. Better design, powerful performance, and long battery life make the JBL Flip 3 one of the best Bluetooth speakers currently available.
The JBL Flip 3 doesn’t set the world on fire. Like all the other speakers with similar features, the Flip 3 plays audio from any Bluetooth-enabled gadget such as computers, tablets, smartphones, etc. The only catch is that the audio source must be located nearby. But, what’s interesting is that the Bluetooth speaker can be connected to multiple speakers to enhance the music experience.

Lets Break It Down
The JBL Flip 3 isn’t the only tube-shaped speaker on the market, but it grabbed attention with its smooth, slick look. What’s more, JBL offers eight different color options. Personally, I liked the black colored Flip 3 speaker.
From the looks of it, some serious thought has gone into upgrading the design because the third generation speaker certainly looks better than the previous models. To make the speaker splashproof rubber seals have been added at both ends. This is surrounded by a smooth black matte trim, followed by the speaker net. The bass radiators add to the speaker’s attraction.
In the box, along with the main speaker, I found one micro USB Cable, warranty card, safety sheet, and quick start guide. Don’t search for the wall charger adapter or a carry bag, you won’t find them. Placed horizontally, running along the equator are the power button, JBL Connect button, audio input, and USB port. As part of the splashproof measure, the audio input slot and USB port are roofed by a flap. Below these options (or above, depending on the way you hold the speaker) we can see the Bluetooth button, volume controls, and the call answer button, which also doubles up as play/pause/move forward or back button.
It was so easy to get the Bluetooth-enabled speaker going. To play Flip 3 for the first time, switch on the power button and pair the Bluetooth with a device. Holding the Bluetooth button on the speaker for a few seconds will begin the pairing process. As soon as the button flashes blue light, search for the Flip3 option on the device and sync the gadgets. The Bluetooth 4.1 used in the speaker has a limited range of only 33-feet, but the ideal range is within 12-feet. Portability is one of biggest plus points of the JBL Flip 3, but that doesn’t mean we should only use it with our smartphones. We can use the speaker with any Bluetooth-enabled source such as personal computers, laptops, TV, etc.
The JBL Flip 3 allows hands-free control using voice assistant programs such as Google Now and SIRI. To activate the voice assistant feature download the JBL Connect app on the device that has the audio files. Next, activate the Bluetooth button and search Flip 3 on the JBL Connect app. Attach the speaker to a power source and press the upgrade option in the app. After the upgrade, switch the toggle button to enable the voice assistant. Voila! All I have to do next is click the connect button and use Google Now or SIRI to issue commands. I also used the same JBL Connect feature to play a single music track on multiple speakers. Press the JBL Connect button on 2 or more speakers to pair them and play the audio.
The JBL Flip 3 is smaller than other similar products in the market, but it seems, the lower price tag is fair for a product that is splash proof, durable, and equipped with numerous features and functionalities.
I wanted to see if its performance is as good as its design. I played vastly diverse music tracks to test its performance and I was pretty impressed. For a music lover, there is no better sight than to watch the radiators vibrate when the speaker is switched on. Some users might prefer to place it vertically standing, but I found doing so affected its performance. So, it’s best to keep it horizontal while playing music.
The JBL Flip 3 is a handy tool to have in the conference room. Although all smartphones that are available these days come with built-in speakers, they cannot match an external unit. The echo cancellation and noise reduction Flip 3 speaker guarantees clear call audio quality and the microphone quality is equally good.
Earlier models of JBL speakers are not fondly remembered for their battery life. JBL has worked on it and the Flip 3 speakers can now last up to 10 hours after 3-4 hours of full charge. A series of light indicators on the speaker shows the charge level in the battery.

Without a doubt, the JBL Flip 3 is one of the best Bluetooth speakers one can find in the market. It’s sturdy, splash proof, portable, comes with extended battery life, has great sound quality and strong bass, allows voice assistant control, and is fairly priced.
